Composite Panel Solutions To Contribute To
Major New York City Rail Car Project

Cattaraugus, NY [April 28, 2015] Composite Panel Solutions (CPS) has been sub-contracted to manufacture ceilings and interior panels for New York City’s Metropolitian Transit Authority (MTA) Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and Metro-North Rail Road M9 Rail Car project.  The supplied components are part of an up to $1.8 billion MTA award to build a total of 676 next generation rail cars over the next five years.

According to a MTA press release, “the cars will replace 1980s-era M3 railcars that serve the LIRR’s eight electric branches and Metro-North’s Harlem and Hudson Lines and to expand fleet capacity for both railroads to allow for ridership growth.”1  The M9 railcars will feature larger windows, modern heating and air conditioning, an automated interior and exterior public announcement system, and single leaf doors for improved reliability.

Composite Panel Solutions was choosen for their transit industry experience, capabilities and quality.  Composite panel constructed components must meet or exceed strict structural and public safety standards.

“Composite Panel Solutions is proud to be sub-contracted with the future of New York City’s public transit system,” Remarks Pete Dandrea, President.  “The M9 project adds to our portfolio of manufacturing railcar components found in over 25 world-wide transit systems including London, Chicago, Atlanta, Vancouver and Taipei.”

The contract is the largest in Composite Panel Solutions history.  Since May 2009, CPS has partnered with the Cattaraugus County Procurement Technical Assistance Center for support and services to promote their valuable capabilities to federal and state opportunities.

Job Growth

In addition to other booked contracts, the company is growing their workforce by up to 10-15 employees over the next year-and-a-half.  There is an immediate need for skilled labor in general fabrication, machining and welding.  In addition, engineering, quality assurance and project management positions are also available.

Composite Panel Solutions is working with the Cattaraugus-Allegany Workforce Investment Board on programs to provide on-the-job training to qualified candidates who are currently unemployed, possess a self-motivated desire to learn new skills and are committed to the company.
